It was a warm and sunny day here so I decided to spend 2 hours in the dark watching
Annihilation
starring Natalie Portman.
Almost all the great visuals of the movie were shared in the trailer but this mattered little. Context made it fresh again. The only thing I wish for was more backstory of the characters. At 2 hours, there was certainly room to add a little length for it.
How did it end? I don’t know.
What did it all mean? I don’t know.
Was it good? Yes.

The book series expands very little on the characters. A bit on Bruce Ng’s character, or who he should be per the book.
On the expedition they don’t even know each other’s names.

I have heard so many mixed opinions about this movie that I am really intrigued by it and apparently it is recommended that you watch it in the theater for the “full experience”

Interesting. I knew it was based on a book, but just learned there are two more in the series.

That’s exactly why I went today. I don’t go to the theater often, but when I do, it’s for a specific type of movie. This is one of those movies. Visuals with thought.

It’s a thinking person’s movie. Someone who prefers the Michael Bay treatment will find this movie dull and boring.
My family gave it four thumbs up. The best part was sitting with the family during dinner and discussing the movie, the possibilities, the gaps, the loopholes and the deeper meanings. Best dinner ever.

The movie kinda sorta touches on all the books in a way. It’s meant to stand alone.
I’m about to reread book 1, it’s fairly short. 1 is pretty much just the expedition shown in the movie. 2 expands on some of the other expeditions and tries to explain what Area X (the “shimmer”) is...and doesn’t. 3 actually does explain how it started...kinda.
The whole series is strange, unnerving, and wonderful. At the end you almost understand what has happened.

Even today, I’m still thinking about it. Great.
